Take Off Labs Adds New Digital Scorecard Feature To TMS!

COVID-19 has driven golf innovation and new ways of thinking. In response to the pandemic and as part of our ongoing strategy to ensure Golf Genius TMS remains at the forefront of the industry, we couldn’t be more excited to have developed a significant new feature in the form of a ‘digital scorecard’ capability.

Our new ‘digital scorecard’ experience supports the traditional ‘marker’ convention used in competitive golf tournaments. With paper scorecards, players in a group have to physically exchange cards, and a designated player is the scorer or marker for one or more other players. The marker can also note their own score, which is referred to as ‘marker’s notes’. At the end of the round, players compare hole-by-hole scores, verify scores and certify their scorecards.

This traditional scoring convention is now comprehensively supported as a fully digital and contactless process via the new feature.

Utilising the capabilities of our software engineers, we’ve been able to rapidly develop this new functionality and enhance our current live scoring app, to support golfers around the world adapting to the COVID-19 ‘new normal’ conditions.

Working with a number of major golf associations and clubs, we’ve been able to incorporate a multitude of ‘digital scorecard’ options, far more than any other solution on the market, and implement an approach that aligns with the Rules of Golf across the globe.

The new feature can also provide detailed reporting and added flexibility for tournament managers, for example the ability to decide if markers are assigned based on position in a pairing group or if players can choose themselves who they mark on the app.

Flavia Grosan, President & Co-Founder of Take Off Labs, commented, “The COVID-19 pandemic has meant the institution of golf has had to quickly adapt and innovate, with the need to be contactless. We believe this new ‘digital scorecard’ not only fulfils that need, but with more players further embracing digital technology, it’s benefitting the future of the game.’ We’ve achieved a seamless and smooth user experience for iOS and Android but the myriad variables in the development phase proved to be challenging from both an algorithmic and testing perspective. However, our software developers are expert problem solvers; this successful release is down to their high level of engineering prowess and the collaboration between our QA team, product management and also our customers.”
